James served in the Marines in World War I. He was an insurance agent and a self-employed accountant. He had a great love of music, bordering on fanatacism. His favorite song was "I Never Had a Chance" which managed to get sung at most family gatherings. He was a great kidder and did a fantastic imitation of a drunk. Emma was a sweet, kind lady whose life long wish was to have a home of her own, but sadly they always lived in an apartment. They lived above an insurance office where James worked on the corner of Kenelworth and 22nd street.

Jim and Emma had a daughter Dorothy born 09/18/1922.
